Silhouette
of Rebecca Abbott, Philadelphia or Salem
County , New Jersey , circa
1810
Framed size: 6” x 5¾”

Rarely do we find a silhouette with as much specific information about the sitter, and we are pleased to offer this handsome piece accompanied by a file of genealogical research. Rebecca Redman Abbott was born May 2, 1798 to George and Mary (Redman) Abbott of the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting, and she had two brothers, William and George. The family removed to Chesterfield Meeting in Salem County , New Jersey and lived there between 1804 and 1815. Rebecca married Josiah Holmes in Pilesgrove Township, Salem County, New Jersey in 1822; she died in 1824.
This silhouette is charming and was framed with glass on both sides so that the signature and information can be viewed on the reverse. It is in excellent condition, in an early 19 th century reeded frame.
